FHWA to Host Road Safety Audit Forum
Sept 3-5, 2008 in Williamsburg, VA

The Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Mid-Atlantic Safety Team will be hosting the 2008 Road Safety Audit (RSA) Forum in Williamsburg, VA Sept 3-5, 2008. The event will be held at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel located near the Colonial Williamsburg historic area. Road Safety Audits (RSAs) are a highly-effective tool designed to help state and local transportation agencies identify safety problems and appropriate solutions in specific locations and corridors. The Road Safety Audit Forum will focus on common emphasis areas among the mid-Atlantic States including current progress, RSA success stories from around the U.S., and ways to advance implementation of RSAs in the mid-Atlantic region. This Forum will also serve as a peer exchange among the mid-Atlantic States to highlight successful RSA programs and policies, and facilitate discussion regarding RSAs.

The two day Road Safety Audit Forum will be followed by an optional Road Safety Audits for Local Governments Workshop. This workshop is designed to introduce participants to RSAs as an effective tool to reduce injuries and fatalities on your road network. The workshop will help local road agency professionals understand basic road safety audit concepts, risk and safety, and common issues. Participants will gain experience in conducting a road safety audit. The workshop will also demonstrate that low cost safety improvements can be implemented quickly to reduce fatalities and severe crashes.
